GENERAL SUMMARY
The Maintenance Mechanic maintains and repairs heating,
ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems for
RDU Airport Authority facilities. This position also assists with
escalators, powerwalks, ticketing scales, and a large variety of
other problems that are associated with the routine maintenance of
a public facility. Additionally, the Maintenance Mechanic will
assist with weather related activities such as snow removal and or
hurricane preparedness to maintain a 24/7 operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

HVAC
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains:
Direct expansion air conditioning units
A variety of pumps associated with HVAC, from 1 hp to 100 hp
throughout the airport
The airport's AHUs and ventilation systems
Boilers and hot water system
Chillers and chilled water system
Cooling towers
Variable frequency drives
Monitors and operates all RDU Building Management Systems
Maintains and assists with HVAC water treatment
Plumbing
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains:
A variety of pumps associated with plumbing, from 1 hp to 100 hp
throughout the airport
Plumbing Stations
Pump stations and sewer lift stations as needed
All associated restroom equipment including toilets, faucets,
sinks, showers, soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and
partitions
Sewer lines: cleans out grease traps, unstops sewer backups, and
floor drain repairs
Backflows
Repairs of water coolers
Maintains and assists with Fire Sprinkler systems
Electrical
Checks operation, performs preventative maintenance, and assists
with repairs for:
Emergency power generators, automatic transfer switches, generator
paralleling switchgear and distribution system
Electrical switchgear, transformers, buss duct, motor control
centers, and variable frequency drives
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains:
3 Phase; 4,160 volts, 480/277 volt and 208/120 electrical
systems.
A variety of pumps, from 1 hp to 100 hp throughout the airport
All lighting throughout RDUAA campus. Including fluorescent and HID
using ladders and aerial lifts
Checks operation. performs preventive maintenance, and repairs to
automatic sliding door systems and UPS systems
Performs additional related work as required
Hiring Range - Minimum $22.02 and Maximum to commensurate with
experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Education:
Required:
High School diploma or equivalency
Preferred:
Associate Degree or Apprentice Program
Experience:
Required:
At least 2 years residential or light commercial experience in
HVAC, Plumbing, and/or Electrical
Preferred:
At least 4 years residential or light commercial experience in
HVAC, Plumbing, and/or Electrical
Licenses or Certifications:
Required:
Valid NC Driver's License and ability to obtain NC CDL (Class B)
License within 6 months of start date.
Preferred:
NC Registered Journeyman's Certificate
Knowledge of:
HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical systems
Working knowledge and experience of mechanical and utility
systems
The use of mechanical and hand tools, power tools and mechanical
testing equipment
Operation of mechanical High reach lift equipment and Bucket
trucks
English grammar, spelling, punctuation
Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
The use of maintenance work order systems for work assignments and
documenting work activities
Skills:
Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective
and appropriate working relationships
Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to
another of a different nature
Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition,
subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work
assignments
Ability to:
Handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic
