Description of Work

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for technical guidance and supervision to grounds crew. This position's responsibilities include the following:

* Construction, modification, and general upkeep of grounds areas * Work assignments involving the standard application of horticultural practices * Consult with superiors concerning proposed work assignments; suggest practical ways to schedule work procedures * Supervise assigned crews in mowing lawns, constructing sidewalks, parking lots, formal gardens, and in general grounds maintenance activities * Supervise equipment operators and grounds personnel in excavating areas, removing trees, and wrecking old buildings * Supervise the repair of surfaced roads and the removal of trash, leaves, and snow * Prepare requisitions for supplies, materials, and equipment * Consult with nurserymen concerning plant adaptability * Accepted usage, and sources of supply * Coordinate grounds upkeep work with building maintenance personnel so that equipment, labs, and materials can be more efficiently utilized * Perform related work as required

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.


Note to Current State Employees:

The salary grade for this position is GN05(Salary Range: $31,200 - $44,091). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Central Prison Correctional Institution is a multi-custody prison housing male offender in close, medium and minimum custody. The largest inmate population consist of medium custody offenders.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

* Documented knowledge of the horticultural practices and/or techniques applicable to the layout and/or upkeep of formal gardens and/or grounds * Documented working knowledge of landscaping

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in grounds upkeep; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
