Positions located in the Driver License Help Desk Unit within the Driver Services Branch of the Division of Motor Vehicles provide State Automated Driver License System application maintenance, application support and application guidance to driver license examiners and driver license field support staff. This Unit also provides driver license research data for the Driver Services Administrative staff and other sections within the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Positions instruct and guide driver license examiners through the application for all types of issuances as needed. Positions provide driver license examiners technical knowledge of office equipment housed at each driver license Site. Positions direct driver license examiners through trouble shooting steps to obtain operational status for this equipment as well as document service calls and perform follow-ups on office equipment. Positions identify and analyze information provided through the NSOPR (National Sex Offender Public Registry). Positions have daily contact with DL offices, DL Help Desk, Law Enforcement Agencies via telephone, email and correspondence in order to authenticate identity and verify confidential and sensitive information. Positions utilize systems such as SADLS, NDR, and CDLIS. Positions certify the issuance process of the State-to-State (S2S) Verification Service through the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) for all North Carolina credential holders.

The program area for this position includes DMV Driver Services, State Automated Driver License System (SADLS) and NCDIT Help Desk Support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience with DMV licensing requirements, driving laws, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in customer service to a diverse clientele and/or other agency contacts.
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting and recommending policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Experience in disseminating accurate information with confidentiality.
  • Experience in an office environment maintaining and updating files, records and reports, organizing and coordinating workflow and activities.

This position is considered "covered" under the REAL ID Act. Therefore, pursuant to 6 CFR, 37.45, the selected candidate will be required to undergo a background check which includes a name-based and fingerprint-based criminal history record check. The candidate that is selected for the position will be given a conditional offer of employment that would allow him or her to begin work subject to the results of the background check. Prior to beginning employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a name-based and fingerprint-based criminal history record check. A cost will be associated with this process for new employees. No cost is associated with this process for existing DMV employees. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
