At our company, patients are our purpose, and the US Patient Advocacy Team works with Patient Advocacy Organizations (PAOs) to enhance public health and to bring the voice of the patient into our company. Under the auspices of the Chief Patient Officer, the team is dedicated to positioning our company as a leader in patient engagement.

This position is location agnostic.

We are currently searching for an experienced professional to join our team as Associate Director, Patient Advocacy. The successful candidate will be a well-organized, positive, flexible, and compassionate self-starter who will be responsible for developing, managing and facilitating strong relationships between PAOs and our Company. This individual can communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues and allies within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment and will actively engage and act in a primary liaison function with national and regional PAOs.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently or collaboratively as appropriate

  • Serve in a liaison function to national & regional PAOs; facilitate engagement through active participation at national and regional congresses and successful implementation of meetings with organization leadership and executive staff

  • Develop, manage, and support long-term PAO relationships through ongoing engagement and communication

  • Support programs & activities of mutual interest

  • Develop therapeutically aligned strategic patient advocacy and educational plans

  • Utilize criteria-based processes including participation in a peer-review committee to ensure assessment and decision-making of proposed projects is in appropriate alignment with our Company's strategic and business objectives

  • Utilize the grants management system to ensure compliance

  • Monitor operating budget for approved programs with PAOs and maintain appropriate processes and financial controls to ensure completion of programs within established budgets

  • Ensure compliance with existing guidelines (FDA, AMA, OIG, CIA, PPSA, et al.) as they pertain to patient advocacy and any independent education components of grants, as well as internal corporate standards and policies

  • Serve as an internal resource and subject matter expert by sharing critical insights from engagements with PAOs (gaps in knowledge, attitudes towards and understanding patients' experience of current medical care, barriers to treatment as it relates to public health) to bring the voice of the patient into the company to inform strategies and key decision making

  • Participate in company initiatives focused on enhancing public health, reducing healthcare disparities, increasing health literacy, and listening to patient perspectives

  • Travel requirements: Prior to the pandemic, this position required 25% travel, including overnight and weekend travel; travel will be required as per public health and company guidance

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required;

  • Advanced degree desired: MPH, MA, MS, or PhD in Public Health, and healthcare fields

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in the healthcare industry (clinical/biopharmaceutical/patient advocacy organization, etc.)

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing relationships with external stakeholders

  • Excellent judgment and high compliance IQ and demonstrated experience working in a heavily regulated environment

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal and communication skills required

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, exciting environment and collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders

  • Vendor selection and management experience

  • Project and budget management experience

  • Compassionate leader with strong analytical skills and ability to work well with a team

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Prior experience working with PAOs strongly desired

  • Knowledge of key therapeutic areas such as oncology and vaccines strongly desired
