Job Position Summary:As an ICC Special Inspector, you will be responsible for providing various testing and inspections on new and on-going projects to verify compliance with building codes and standards. You will use a company provided vehicle to travel to job sites in the area. If youre reliable, have a good work ethic, and can cooperate with co-workers and clients respectfully, this is the position for you. We seek hardworking and motivated candidates with active ICC/CWI certifications. Job Responsibilities:Your day as an ICC Inspector/CWI at SUMMIT will be both challenging and rewarding. During which, you have the opportunity to create lasting relationships with your team members. On a typical day, you can expect to:Travel to various jobs sites in a company provided vehiclePerform routine field tests or inspectionsComplete structural concrete and reinforcing code and job specification complianceUnderstand structural masonry code and job specification complianceDetermine pre-stressed and post tension concrete tendons and reinforcing code and job specification compliancePerform inspections of soil, concrete, asphalt, steel and/or wood framingDetermine spray-applied fireproofing code and job specification complianceDocument field activity and report findings to the clients and supervisorsDaily communication with site contractors, other technicians and project managers This position offers career advancement such as paid certifications and training. Qualifications:Required: Valid Drivers License with acceptable driving recordRequired: High School Diploma or equivalentPreferred: AAS or BS in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or related degreeRequired: 2 years of prior field and/or inspections experiencePreferred: Knowledge or certifications in radiation safety, NCDOT/SCDOT Roadway, Earthworks, and Concrete certificationRequired: Active ICC Certifications: Masonry, Soils, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, etc. or EI (Engineer In Training) licensurePreferred: Active CWI CertificationRequired: Strong written and verbal communication and ability to use technology/computer Skills:Ability to read and interpret construction documentsAbility to calculate results from construction inspectionsAbility to accurately complete field testing paperwork and detailed figuresAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memosAbility to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organizationAbility to lift 50-75 lbs.Ability to work outdoors in various work weather conditions Working Conditions:Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments. Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required. Physical Requirements:These physical demands are representative of what a Special Inspector/CWI may encounter in the field and are essential functions of this position.You will be involved primarily with field work on outside construction sites involving long term standing and perhaps repetitive motions. You must have the ability to use your hands to handle, finger or feel; reach, climb or balance; crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit. You will have the ability to see and smell; including close, distance and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus.You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day. This employee will regularly lift and/or move/shake up to 40 pounds [soil and/or concrete tests and related apparatus]; frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds [soils and sand samples, and nuclear density equipment]; and occasionally move more than 100 pounds [such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete samples]. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Notes:SUMMIT will provide transportation for jobsite work.
