The engineer will identify sources of degradation/corrosion and work closely with statisticians in the quantification of uncertainty. This position will require the aggregation and interpretation of academic and industry research data in support of this goal. Research and data analysis will focus on identifying the likelihood of occurrence of degradation/corrosion modes, the correlated rates of degradation/corrosion, and uncertainties within associated research, empirical models, and inspection/testing methods.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The engineer will report to the engineering lead and provide detailed information on the results of the research and subsequent analyses. The engineer will also collaborate with team members to aid in the development of finite element models and inspection and monitoring strategies. The position may require the training of other individuals in research procedures, as well as the communication of engineering topics, academic literature, and statistical analysis to team members who are nonexperts in these areas. The engineer will ensure quality and quantity of all engineering studies, reports, and drawings, and provide management with appropriate report(s) as requested.OTHER FUNCTIONS Demonstrate the necessary interpersonal skills to thrive in a team-oriented work environmentContribute to a strong collaborative team environmentDemonstrate strong follow-through skills with ability to meet deadlines Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while representing FDHAdhere to all policies and procedures of FDHAdditional duties as assigned by supervisorQUALIFICATIONSMaster's or PhD Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related discipline, is required. Minor in Statistics is a plus.Minimum of two years of relevant experience, which may include the study of material degradation / corrosion, structural engineering, and/or data analysis / statistical methods.Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance required.Working knowledge of data science programming languages (Python, R, JMP/SAS) is a plus.Working knowledge of Finite Element Software (ANSYS, ABAQUS) is a plus.Ability to organize and efficiently analyze large sets of research data.Ability to work with a team to manage several project tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines in a timely manner. May be asked to manage project task identification and milestone schedule.Ability to obtain security clearance required.Possesses the ability to communicate statistical analyses effectively (verbally and in writing) with all levels of management, employees, and outside contacts.Action Oriented - is action oriented and works well with challenges., Business Acumen - Knowledgeable in the business, policies, practices and trends., Customer Focus - Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers., Drive for Results - Pushes self and others for results., Functional Technical Skills - Has functional and technical knowledge and skills.This position does not have direct reports
