Job Profile Summary

The Dean of Libraries and Academic Success Centers provides strategic vision and leadership in developing, implementing, and assessing direction for the Libraries and Academic Success Centers while embracing current trends and direction and their function within a college setting. The Dean sets the vision, direction, and supervises the multiple laboratories and tutoring departments that comprise the Academic Success Centers of the College. This includes the STEM Center, a dedicated area for students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers, along with separate labs for Mathematics, Writing, ESL, Reading and a General Tutoring Lab.

The Dean will also work in researching and developing ideas for grants that will continue to fund and grow the library along with forging partnerships with other institutions and organizations. The Dean will bring knowledge of current trends in technology to address the learning style of incoming students and innovations that can be incorporated into the library setting in order to help our students succeed in their academic goals. The library at North and South Campus are joint-use facilities with the Broward County Library . The U/C Library is a collaborative effort between Broward College and Florida Atlantic University (FAU). The Dean reports to the Broward College Central Campus President & Vice-Provost for Teaching Excellence & Learning, and serves as a member of the Governance Policy Advisory Committee and other college-wide committees related to administrative and planning activities. For the Central Campus Library matters, this position is responsible to both the Campus President and the FAU Associate Provost for Broward through the Governance Policy Advisory Committee, or GPAC. For the Academic Success Centers, the Dean reports directly to the Campus President. This position oversees division budgets and is responsible for managing assets and personnel that serve other college-wide units. Minimum Education :

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Master’s in other appropriate field required.

Doctorate preferred.

Minimum Experience/Training :

Seven to ten years of progressive administrative or managerial experience, preferably in the public sector of higher education.

Experience with budget administration, instruction and shared governance a plus.

An equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

Essential Functions :

Daily -35%: Provides leadership and direction to the academic community by administering and managing the College's joint use facilities encompassing the University/College Library, other join-use libraries and the Academic Success Centers. Utilizes knowledge of current trends in technology to address the learning style of incoming students and innovations that can be incorporated into the library setting in order to help Broward College students succeed in their academic goals.

Daily -15%: Administers and develops division operating funds by preparing and managing budgets, overseeing fund disbursement, and exercising final approval of purchases, acquisitions and related expenditures.

Daily -5%: Maintains current awareness of trends and developments in the pertinent disciplines (library science and academic resources) and plans development and implementation of new/modified programs, operations and services through the review of current practices, professional literature, and staff input.

Daily-10%: Promotes efficiency by developing, implementing, and administering divisional policies and procedures; evaluating operations and modifying accordingly.

Daily -10%: Communicates effectively as a collaborator, decision maker and problem solver with BC and FAU faculty, staff, Campus President's staff, academic affairs and the college community by all means available in order to support programs and services, coordinate special projects and serve as an advocate for the all Libraries and Academic Success Centers.

Daily -5%: Represents BC and FAU by participating in local, regional, and national committees and professional organizations; maintain effective communications with BC and FAU representatives. Participates in campus and college governance by serving and chairing campus and district committees.

Daily -5%: Assists in the attainment of college goals and objectives by working collaboratively with district and campus administration to ensure a college-wide perspective.

Daily -10%: Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination, and discipline. Setting performance standards and promotes effective professional development of staff by encouraging participation in training opportunities in practices and procedures of library science and learning resources.

Weekly -5%: Represents the library and develops collegial working relationships with peers by serving on the Campus President's staff. Kees abreast of developing trends and needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Knowledge of budget, finance and the proper administration and expenditure of public funds. Conversant with current computer and technological practices in the field. Firm understanding of the college system and the university system in the state. Knowledge of libraries, research and learning resources.

Develops and administers several large departmental budget(s) and State/Federal grants

Works directly with contractual provisions, interpreting contract language and working with faculty to ensure contract provisions are met

Has full responsibility to oversight of multiple academic discipline/or units

Responsible for the protection and safe-keeping of confidential data acquired during the course of work
