Lead R&D Scientist/Engineer - Fibers and PolymersThe Lead
R&D Scientist/Engineer - Fibers and Polymers will conduct
complex and non-standard research, development, and performance
testing activities that support the development and
commercialization of performance fibers. The role will act as a
technical project lead of multiple projects and direct the work of
other technical team members assigned to project(s). The position
will support new product and process introduction activities from
concept to deployment. The Lead Formulations Scientist/Engineer
must be hands-on and is expected to transition research and
development from the laboratory and into pilot and commercial
manufacturing environments.

us!Responsibilities:
- Develops fiber formulations as well as compounding and spinning
processes to support the business strategy and meet established
project objectives, including product design approaches, test
plans, process enhancements, and milestones to project
completion.
- Completes complex analytical testing procedures, in-depth
analysis, and interpretation. Provides detailed and accurate test
reports to the stakeholders in a timely manner. Evaluates all
test/project data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and
reasonability of conclusions.
- Provides detailed and accurate project reports to the internal
and external stakeholders.
- Participates in project reviews and presents findings as
appropriate. Engages with assigned teams and cross-functional
stakeholders, such as operations, process, marketing, etc. to
assist in troubleshooting and determining future direction.
- Leads or directs special research projects independently.
Oversees technical activities and/or supervises technical team
members assigned to the project.
- Assures that complete documentation and notes are maintained on
the specified Quality System of Record.
- Maintains awareness of new and/or alternate raw materials,
processes, equipment, and competitive product development.
- Participates in intellectual property (IP) type activities as
required.
JOB REQUIREMENTSEducation & Experience Minimums:
- Advanced degree in fiber science, material science, polymer
science, chemical engineering, or closely related technical field
OR 4-5 years in polymer extrusion/fiber extrusion at the Bachelor's
degree level.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with polymeric
processing (fiber spinning, extrusion, molding, and additive
manufacturing) and resin formulating (as with polymer blends,
polymer solutions, and additive/colorant formulation).
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of process development as
well as operation and maintenance of complex automated mechanical
equipment. Combinations of related education and experience may be
considered.
- Knowledge of fiber science and characterization techniques (
FTIR spectroscopy, UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopy, thermal analysis,
optical and electron microscopy, ICPMS, XRF, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of data analysis and data-based
decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a
diverse group.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills: verbal
presentation, report writing, documentation, and note-taking.
- Computer skills: MS Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint), Google WorkspacePreferred
- Advanced degree in Fiber Science or Material Science
- Engineering background in the chemical sciences
- Expertise in melt extrusion techniques, such as compounding and
spinning, as well as polymer processing and characterization
- Ability to master processes related to the processing and
analysis of natural fiber manufacturing processes.
- Ability to serve as a technical lead of interdisciplinary teams
in academic/industrial environments.
- Serious passion and interest in creating highly innovative and
sustainable materials.General Expectations
