RN with stepdown or ICU background to work on a newly opening
progressive care unit transitioning to intensive care. This
contract position is based in Lexington, NC, offering the chance to
contribute to a high-acuity cardiac-focused unit starting early
2026. Location: Lexington, NC Lexington is known for its friendly

conveniences. Position Highlights: - Contract role at a new 10-12
bed stepdown unit turning into a full ICU by year-end - Care for
complex cardiac patients including post-open heart surgery, heart
transplants, vascular surgeries, and advanced cardiac devices -
Ratios initially 1:3-4, tightening to 1:2-3 when transitioning to
ICU level of care - Supportive interdisciplinary team with
around-the-clock hospitalist, intensivist, RT, and specialty
resources - Opportunity to utilize high-level critical care skills:
Swanz-Ganz, Impella, wound care, defibrillation, EKG
interpretation, chest tubes, art lines, multiple drips, ventilator
care post-transition Qualifications / Desired Experience: - Minimum
2 years of ICU or progressive care experience (CVICU preferred) -
BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required - Skilled in managing
complex cardiac patients with invasive monitoring and advanced
therapies - Experience with LVAD and post-cardiac transplant
preferred but not mandatory (training provided) - Comfortable with
high-acuity critical care, including hemodynamic monitoring and
advanced cardiac life support interventions Responsibilities: -
Provide expert nursing care for a broad range of cardiac and
surgical patients - Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary
teams including respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and specialists
- Participate in self-scheduling with weekend rotation every other
week, no on-call duties - Comply with orientation and unit-specific
training programs for smooth integration Schedule: - 12-hour
shifts, either 6:30 am7:00 pm or 6:30 pm7:00 am - Holiday coverage
expected approximately 50% during contract duration -
