Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing (PDM) Development and Operations (Information Technology) Lead (PDM Dev Ops IT Lead)

Specific Responsibilities & Skills
The PDM Dev Ops IT Lead will report to directly to the Head of IT Research and Development & PDM (IT R&D PDM) and be responsible for overseeing a global team to support functions to include:

  • Solution Delivery: Manage a blended team of contractors and employees to deliver solutions supporting business capabilities that are common to pharmaceutical business capabilities to include Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Serialization, and Product Lifecycle Management solutions. This includes resource management and cost estimation for new capability investments and their associated operational support.
  • Business Partnership: Serve as the IT Solution Delivery counterpart to PDM Stakeholders and partner with Global Capability Leads business to support their mission to accelerate processes to provide Gilead therapies and meet patient needs through technology investments. Understand the value drivers of the business and ensure IT solutions are scalable and can expand to support new therapeutic areas while taking into account innovation and cost to serve.
  • Subject Expertise: Have a thorough understanding of applications of systems to manage activities throughout the pharmaceutical product lifecycle for small molecule and biologic products to include Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Serialization controls. Strong aptitude of technology solutions within the SAP S4 HANA suite (to include SAP ATTP), Oracle Agile, Kinaxis Rapid Response, and Manufacturing Execution Systems such Werum. Thorough understanding of GxP controls and working and delivering in a regulated environment.
  • Domain Expertise: Have a thorough understanding of PDM business capabilities, their interactions/dependencies as material gets planned and eventually transformed during Commercial planning, item creation, manufacturing, and serialization processes. This includes thorough understanding of Master Data Management and data integrity controls.
  • Technology Standardization and Strategy: Support platform decisions, implement automation, improve user satisfaction and drive for operational efficiencies to obtain measured business value. Support strategies to invest in cloud-first business architecture. Deliver scalable and flexible solutions to meet unanticipated business demand. Continuously thrive to find opportunities to invest in innovation to incubate new opportunities requested by business partners in support of the Strategic Technology Council investment and reduce cost to serve through careful consideration of technology platform standards and application retirement through application rationalization.
  • Global Vision/Manages Complexity: Able to synthesize a global customer needs and challenges presented by multiple commercial manufacturing sites/contractor manufacturers, complex supply chain, and product serialization processes. Able to coordinate multiple concurrent technology investments across multiple platforms through the management of a high performing team located in Raleigh, Cork, and Southern California. Able to support the platform transformation vision to drive towards a "SAP First" vision when relevant.
  • IT as a Business Value Driver: Supports the ongoing development, coordination, and execution of the integrated IT strategy including labor, investment choices, organizational priorities, and scorecards and dashboards as well as ensures governance and the definition of IT ways of working.Essential Duties and Job Functions
    General responsibilities for this position will include (but are not limited to) the following:
    • Collaborate with Global Capability Leads to deliver technical solutions to meet future business needs through the implementation of the PDM business strategy to support business process improvements and deliver tangible efficiencies
    • Partner with Managed Service Provider to provide operational support to include sustainment for for Enterprise IT applications that support the PDM space
    • Manage and lead international team through thoughtful performance management and individualized career development plans based on individual needs and corporate strategy
    • Participate on business strategy and capabilities as intake for PMO & Technology Roadmap to support Strategic Technology Council
    • Provide input for Business Cases for Ideation and Project Prioritization.
    • Deliver on portfolio investments and ensure Business Value/Outcomes are realized based on prioritized business needs
    • Leverage key strategic enterprise platforms as the foundation for delivering global business outcomes
    • Optimize organizational focus on core capabilities and leverage managed service partners to provide high value services
    • Create solutions that can measure user experience and value realization in every stage of investment decisions
    • Provide robust content and easy to use, personalized engagement
    • Manage cost center and innovation investments and drive for "cost to serve" efficiencies
    • Enable advanced digital capabilitiesEducation
      • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experienceExperience
        • 15+ years experience in drug development with 10+ years of strategic / thought leadership experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical
        • A minimum of 5-7 years of leadership responsibilities
        • High technology aptitude (engineering experience not required)
        • Expert experience in relevant platforms (ERP, Product LifeCycle Management, Manufacturing Execution systems, and Supply Chain Solutions)Knowledge and Skills
          • Strong leadership capability, executing as appropriate in the areas of responsibility
          • Expertise in budget planning, financial management, and workforce management
          • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions and strategic application to business needs including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype
          • Ability to improve operational efficiency, service delivery, and information management across the IT organization
          • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others
