General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a personable, accountable, organized, and integrative thinker for an important role as Compliance Officer, Associate Director/Director, Patient Support and South Region. This is a role for someone with a broad understanding of the business dynamics and risks that are addressed through the Compliance function in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries in general, and Patient Support or hub functions in particular. The successful candidate will work well with others, be comfortable with systems and data, have a strong sense of professionalism, be flexible to tackle assignments related to any element of an effective Compliance program, and embody the highest standards of personal integrity and accountability.

It is essential to this role that the candidate works well with people and technology in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The position requires individuals with an unwavering commitment to excellence that is coupled with a flexibility to adapt to business needs. The successful candidate will be attentive to detail in documentation as well as in interpersonal interactions, be mature and circumspect about confidential information, and be passionate about the role of Compliance in the organization. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, as is the desire and ability to excel in a multidisciplinary environment as an integral member of matrixed teams.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the head of Sage Central, our Patient Support center, and other leaders as a member of the extended Sage Central Leadership Team.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Sage Central team members on Compliance standards applicable to their activities, and coordinate with other functions, such as Legal and Regulatory, to develop relevant guidance.
  • Design and oversee auditing and monitoring of Sage Central activities, and related data inputs. Activities to be monitored may include communications related to benefit plans, reimbursement support, and co-pay assistance.
  • Monitor call center activities and activities of field teams in the South region through checklist-based review of a sample of records and interactions. Utilize and manage third-party monitoring resources, as directed.
  • Work across diverse systems and data sets to identify real-world intersections of teams and behaviors.
  • Analyze and interpret information in collaboration with others to assess activities and align resources, often making judgements in the face of incomplete information.

    Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

    • Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, and good conflict management skills.
    • BA or BS required, graduate degree or certification in a related skill (e.g., J.D., MBA, CPA) a plus
    • Experience working with Patient Support or hub functions, or field monitoring, in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries required
    • 7-10+ years of compliance experience, preferably within the biopharmaceutical industry
    • Familiarity with checklist-based monitoring processes and related analysis
    • Familiarity with the laws, regulations, and industry guidance that affect the biopharmaceutical industry
    • A natural team player with effective organizational, interpersonal, communication skills
    • Demonstrated technical proficiency, creativity, independent thought, and ability to effectively collaborate
