RN Director, Surgical Services

Position Summary:

Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. The Director Surgical Services provides overall direction and leadership for the Surgical Services Departments (Pre-Procedure Screening, One Day Surgery, OR, Central Processing and PACU).

- Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.

- Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

- Directs a variety of personnel actions; staff selection (interviewing and hiring), provides orientation, prepares performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.

- Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.

- Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

- Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Graduate of a Program in Nursing required. Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

- Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or Compact State required

- Five (5) years' experience in surgical specialty setting required

- Three (3) years' experience as a full-time perioperative supervisory/management role required

- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

- Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health Danville.

- Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association required

- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association preferred
