WE'RE HIRING!Director of Special GiftsThe Methodist Home for Children (MHC) is seeking a proven, innovative fundraiser to lead a strong major gifts program in support of its core mission and special projects. The Director of Special Gifts will strengthen MHC's philanthropic culture, bringing a major giving mindset to complement a robust, long-standing annual fundraising program. The position is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive strategy to identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations capable of making significant investments in MHC's mission.Engaging with major donors and increasing philanthropic revenues are top priorities for MHC's leaders over the next three to five years. Specifically, MHC's plan calls for a $500,000 per year increase in philanthropic giving, achieved in part by growth in major gifts for annual support and special projects. The Director of Special Gifts will also lead capital and program expansion campaigns as identified and authorized by MHC leadership. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Create and execute a disciplined moves management strategy expected to identify and engage with a portfolio of 100+/- major gift prospects. Major gifts are defined as $10,000 or more in annual support and $50,000 or more for capital projects and program expansion. Coordinate the involvement of key agency staff and board members in bringing donors and prospects to new levels of giving. Work collaboratively with board members, Advancement team, and MHC program leadership to identify major gift opportunities and design donor engagement strategies to determine appropriate timing and execution cultivation and solicitation. Develop contact reports and monthly donor management reports. Day to day activities will include calling, emailing and visiting regularly with donors and prospects. Contact, visitation and revenue targets will be set in conversations with VP of Advancement. Determine appropriate timing and executing of cultivation and solicitation strategies. Donor and gift planning and marketing tools will be used to track moves management activities. Draft major gift proposal documents and recognition opportunities. Develop recognition and stewardship programs as appropriate; write acknowledgement letters as needed to enhance relationships with donors; assist with publicity arrangements on special gifts, programs, accomplishments or events relating to major and special gifts. Develop relationship with outside counsel who advise and review complex outright, large special gifts. This includes proposed gifts of real estate, closely held stock, multi-year gifts and pledges and other planned gifts when appropriate. Participate in special events and activities as part of the advancement plan and serve as liaison to special gift prospects. Perform other duties as requested by Vice President of Institutional Advancement. QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum requirements include a Bachelor Degree from an accredited institution; CFRE or ACRFE credential as a plus; with five (5) years of demonstrable success meeting measures, including proven track record of major gift closures. Experience in major gifts acquisition and nonprofit development. Skills/Working Conditions: Experience in donor management programs. MHC uses Donor Perfect and CrescendoPossess a passion for relationship-based fundraising, including an appreciation for the impact that faith, personal beliefs, and family values have on giving decisions.The ability to think strategically and creatively and to multitask, meet deadlines and work productively with minimal supervision.The ability to convey MHC's value to prospective donors using effective verbal and written means of communication. Willingness and availability to travel extensively across NC, including regular visits with local church leaders and members, business owners and foundation leader. Must maintain a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.Must be insurable by Methodist Home for Children's insurance carrier.
