RDU Airport Authority provides a world-class customer experience for a multitude of passengers traveling to or through the airport. We are currently seeking to fill a newly created Director of Strategic Communications position in our Communications, Government and Community Affairs (CGCA) department.

  • Develop and execute an internal communications strategy to promote the Authority's core values and support the organization's Business Plan.--
  • Work closely with Human Resources to communicate benefits, payroll, talent management and personnel-related information.
  • Develop messaging and internal presentations for company updates, key initiatives, industry issues and other topics.
  • Co-manage the Authority's crisis communications response plan including ensuring the Crisis Communications Plan is updated and consistent with the National Incident Management System (NIMS); develop and execute tabletops and training exercises.
  • Media on-the-record spokesperson and support media relations functions including tracking and managing inquiries, researching media requests and developing responses.
  • Rotate on-call shifts (nights/weekends/holidays) with members of the communications team.
  • Assist with social media and website management.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects.
  • Broad knowledge of Raleigh-Durham International Airport and the Research Triangle region; established relationships with Triangle-region business and community groups preferred
  • Knowledge of AP Stylebook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills--
  • Exercises sound judgment and initiative in planning, analyzing, coordinating and supervising
  • Handles difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Good ability to work under pressure while staying on task
  • Immediately report to the airport in the event of crisis or emergency
  • Strong media situational awareness and messaging abilities
  • Ability to plan, budget, schedule and supervise internal employee events; and public, customer and community events
