Applied Research Associates, Inc. is looking for a structural engineer who has a significant desire to develop software, learn programming best practices, and help strengthen our national security. As part of our Advanced Modeling & Simulation Systems team in Raleigh, NC, you will support our growing business in the areas of GIS, physics-based simulation, and geometric modeling.
Our work focuses on modeling a diverse range of phenomena including weapons effects, blast modeling, tunnel construction and design, structural modeling, structural response to blast loads, structural collapse, and equipment response. Your day-to-day work will consist of software development, software testing, and engineering verification & validation. Tunnel characterization and design is a core part of our research. You will be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team-based environment to develop algorithms that optimize design constraints, geotechnical constraints, and physical space requirements.
* BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline with 2-4 years relevant work experience.
* This position requires strong coding skills in C++, Java, or Python
* Relocation to Raleigh NC; this position involves minimal travel for collaboration with customers and partners
* Team player with excellent communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic software development team environment (e.g., Agile, Scrum, XP practices)
* Possession of, or the ability to obtain and hold a US security clearance (selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment)
Other Desirable Skills:
* Expertise in DoD modeling and simulation technology, structural dynamics, blast effects, structural collapse, and/or probabilistic analysis
* Familiarity with software design patterns and modern C++
* Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics
