Job Description:
Position Summary The Department of Biology at UNC -Chapel Hill
will employ an Intermittent Teaching Assistant Professor to teach
BIOL 250 Evolutionary Biology during the second session of Summer
School 2026. This course will foster an understanding of how the
science of evolutionary biology can be used to understand life on
the planet. Topics to be explored include the causes of speciation
and extinction, why humans get sick and age, and how genomes
evolve. Students will learn how to interpret data from an
evolutionary perspective, apply evolutionary principles to
applications in medicine, conservation, agriculture and other
disciplines, and prepare for more advanced work in biology. Classes
are held daily during the summer. Pedagogical materials (syllabi
learning goals, slide presentations, guided reading questions,
quizzes and exams) are in place so course development requirements
are minimal. Responsibilities for the class: - Prepare a syllabus,
outlining topics and reading assignments in the textbooks for each
class period - Prepare and present lectures for each class -
Prepare exams and provide guidance to TAs about grading - Post
class materials (e.g. Powerpoint presentations, synopsis of main
points, assignments) on Canvas - Hold office hours each week -
Respond promptly to email messages from students Preferred
Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Relevant college
teaching experience, experience with in-person and remote teaching
technologies.
