Description of Work

The Pre-Analytical Services Unit's clerical team provides support
for programs involved with the metabolic screening of newborns,
hemoglobinopathies, blood lead testing, and virological/serological
testing services. The primary purpose of this position is to
provide data entry and data management support for an
office/laboratory setting and verifying patient demographics
through keyboarding and scanning forms. This position receives and
handles phone calls from users of laboratory services concerning
the status of test results, types of tests available, turn-around
time for test procedures, etc. and other duties as assigned.
In addition to the responsibilities detailed above, the person in
this position will be responsible for sorting and mailing of test
reports, records management of requisitions and maintaining
numerical and chronological files.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

* Demonstrated experience with data entry and maintaining various
types of files.
* Demonstrated customer service experience in a medical
setting.
* Experienced entering data in a medical setting.
* Experience dealing with moderate to heavy phone inquiries.
* Experience with handling confidential and protected health
information.
* Experience using a variety of office equipment.
* Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Ability to interpret regulations, laws and policies and apply
them to your everyday work.
* Ability to quickly learn new information and apply it.
* The ability to use correct spelling, punctuation and specialized
vocabulary as demonstrated on your application.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and
one year of administrative experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
