JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Carbon and Sustainability Data & Reporting is part of the Global Operations (GO) department, which is responsible for taking ideas into implementation across all brands, disciplines, and continents. This position will report to the Director Energy, Data & Reporting as part of the Engineering discipline. This position functions as a key contributor of driving data capture, analysis and reporting for global hotels and provides key validated metrics that will enable Marriott to accurately report its' status and/or progress against its' publicly stated ESG goals.
This role will have a focus on Green House Gas Protocol scope 3 data acquisition and quality, ensuring the appropriate processes for acquiring, extrapolating, and storing this data to ensure this data is appropriately reflected in Marriott's GHG Inventory Management Plan. This position plays a role that is part of the larger ESG reporting needs and frameworks and as such requires an elevated level of collaboration with a cross functional team of all Marriott sustainability stakeholders, engagement with suppliers and other scope 3 categories.
The Senior Manager, Carbon and Sustainability Data & Reporting is part of a first line of support for properties, owners, and Marriott Associates on all energy, water, and carbon use issues. They will facilitate relevant training to property engineers, General Managers, Senior Leadership, Owners, and other key stakeholders on energy, water, and carbon-based data as well as a wide variety of energy, sustainability, and environmental related topics.
The primary job responsibilities are:


  • Supports all strategy development, data reporting, data quality, and compliance for scope 1,2, and 3 relating to carbon reduction under the direction of their manager.


  • Oversees day-to-day MESH issues and ESG reporting needs.


  • Provides data validation and regression analysis based on weather, climate, occupancy, and other factors and will contribute to ensuring that Marriott's SERVE 360 environmental strategy is effectively communicated to and supported at the property level.


  • Analyzes and compiles data to provide an array of intuitive dashboards, scorecards, and business intelligence tools for properties, above property teams, and ownership groups.

    Education and Experience
    Required


  • 4-year Bachelor's degree from an accredited university inEnergy, Data Analytics, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Mathematics, or related field appropriate to work of the position professional area OR equivalent industry experience


  • 5+ years of experience in modeling and data analysis, carbon management, and/or project management


  • Experience with carbon reporting protocols, requirements, indices (i.e., Carbon Disclosure Project) and reporting methodologies such as Hotel Carbon Measurement initiative (HCMI) and Hotel Water measurement Initiative (HWMI) and World Resources Institutes Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard


  • Experience with the following tools:


  • Programming in R, Python, JavaScript, SQL, or other equivalent


  • Advanced analytical skills using Microsoft Excel and PowerBI


  • Power User level ability with Microsoft Office 365 Suite including PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams & Outlook


    Preferred


    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Certification, Certified Energy Procurement, or similar certifications in energy management


    • Knowledge of renewable and on-site energy systems and ability to vet renewable generation business cases


    • Experience within lodging/hospitality industries, retail, real estate and/or other travel sectors


    • Knowledge of hotel operations and supply chain architecture


    • Creating S.O.W.s and negotiating long and short-term agreements


    • Experience writing APIs to automate data management


    • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to manage relationships with senior management, functional departments, vendors/consultants, and internal/external customers


    • Concise, organized written communication and presentation skills, and able to synthesize and summarize data effectively


    • Strong project management skills

      • Provides strategic sustainability and functional reporting, metrics and leadership to property General Managers and Engineers.


      • Executes consistent business processes for properties within area of responsibility; shares best practices with the broader organization

      • Takes calculated risks to move properties forward by identifying use/cost outliers and intensity improvement opportunities


      • Leads the establishment of annual energy, water & waste reduction targets, identifies outliers and takes action to call attention to a crisis or heightened awareness of a need for change even in the face of opposition


      • Supports development of data pipelines, and reporting using AWS services including Lambda, SES, SQL, or NoSQL databases, and application hosting services.


      • Understands and leverages energy & waste intensity trends along with climate and brand-based metrics in developing properties' annual heat, light and power reduction targets


      • Oversees energy usage to drive focus on outlier consumption and expenses to increase profitability while reducing Marriott's environmental footprint.


      • Negotiates and manages energy data vendor(s) to achieve optimal reporting features and analysis while reducing the long-term costs for these services.


      • Develops a trusting and respectful business partnership with property ownership by meeting or exceeding expectations in portfolio and property reporting


      • Develops resource pages, platforms, dashboards, tools, and resources to support the data for various executive leader needs.


      • Oversees the development of a long-term plan and maintains a cloud-based platform for providing scope 1,2,3 emissions reporting that enables Marriott International to accurately report on and attain its sustainability goals.


      • Utilizes legal resources as necessary to fully review and ensure all contracts protect Marriott and our Owner's from risk and/or damages.


      • Develops positive relationships with property management teams, above property leaders, utility providers, energy providers, consultants, and owners to help achieve strategic business outcomes.


      • Develops and maintains reporting minimum standards for all scope 1, 2, 3 emissions reporting that adhere to the World Resources Institutes Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.


      • Creates and publishes regular reports on scope 1, 2, 3 emission and other ESG reporting needs for use by owners, properties, and Marriott management at all levels


      • Assists in implementation of Marriott's SERVE 360 Sustain Quadrant goals.


      • Utilizes Energy Toolkit and various MGS resource pages to communicate Marriott's environmental policies and expectations to property teams.


      • Maintains resource Advisor (MESH) platform or equivalent to track and report out consumption, variance to annual reduction targets, costs against budget, and year over year costs.


      • Manage ad-hoc requests for data


      • Track progress of work and provide updates to key stakeholders on progress of Carbon and Sustainability reporting activities


      • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

                  California Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $204,107.00 annually.
                  Colorado Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $185,551.00 annually.
                  New York City & Westchester County, NY Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $113,393.00 to $204,107.00 annually.
                  Washington Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $204,107.00 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus. Employees will accrue 0.4616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
